Ballet
is the foundation of all dance. It is a highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. It is best known in the form of classical, but can additionally include contemporary ballet.
Each class begins with a ballet barre, moves to a center floor adage, petite and grand allegro, and concludes with a formal grand reverence. Students will learn terminology in French, correct body alignment, how to improve their natural turn-out and develop a love for the most graceful living art.
Jazz
is a dance form that appeals to many because of its energy, variety, and vitality. Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions and combos.
Tap
is a lively, rhythmic dance style that makes the performer not just a dancer, but a percussive musician. Students will focus on developing skills in tap technique, rhythm, syncopation and coordination. The combinations, steps, and rhythms get more advanced and challenging at each level. As dancers progress through levels added emphasis is placed on technique, body placement, terminology, history and further development of simple rhythms.
Modern
originated in the early 1900’s as a rebellion against the rigid rules of classical ballet. This class incorporates many of the foundations of modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Concentration is placed on body awareness, exploring different levels, traveling movements and increasing the body’s strength and flexibility. Dancers explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.
Musical Theatre
combines jazz technique with other varieties to create a “Broadway” style of dance. This class is fun and appeals to all levels of dance. Class starts with an improvisational exercise and will have progressions and center floor work and combinations that combine acting with jazz dance. Emphasis is placed on developing the dancers acting skills and building confidence and character on stage.
Lyrical/Contemporary
is an expressive style that allows dancers to explore movement through lyrical songs with technique and storytelling. Derived from Ballet and Modern technique, This style of dance has become increasingly popular through it’s strong emphasis on television programs such as Fox’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Contemporary students must concurrently be enrolled in Ballet classes to hone strong technique skills to execute this style while also building healthy and correct muscle memory as budding dancers!
Hip Hop/Jazz Funk
is a high energy, athletic, popular dance style originated on the streets in the late 80’s with break dancing. Hip hop classes infuse the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Class includes a warm-up which concentrates on building stamina, improving strength and flexibility, body conditioning and rhythm isolations.
Students are encouraged to step outside the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Dancers will have fun as they learn combinations to popular and high-energy music!
Acro
